In October we held our 30th Annual General Meeting at Sandon Village Hall, to a full house of attendees. The Chairman Graham thanked group members for their support over the previous 4 years before standing for the new Chairman Marjorie to take over. All but one Committee member decided to stay on for another year
During the year we gained a few new Walk Leaders, but the Chairman emphasized that we still need more to come forward. So often we rely on well established regular Leaders to volunteer for 2, 3 or even 4 walks on any walking programme. There have been occasions recently when ‘regulars’ are not available for various reasons, resulting in gaps in our 4 day/week walking programme. We hope this situation will be rectified in 2017.
The Essex Area Footpath Secretary Katherine Evans, gave a very full verbal report of the problems and challenges facing us and other RA groups in Essex. The details are too numerous to cover in this Newsletter, but can be found as usual under the ‘Footpath Matters’ menu at the top of the page.
The Chairman announced that the C&B Group will undertake an annual audit of conditions on the Chelmsford Centenary Circle, which has not been done for some years. The route was devised and left as a legacy by our first Chairman, the late Kevin Ascott. We shall be asking for volunteers to walk it out in sections and report back to the Committee with any problems they find. A full report of any such findings will then be compiled and sent to Essex County Council, with a request for priority repairs.
We had an enjoyable time reminiscing over our Social Events of the past year, namely the coach rambles, the holiday in Bangor and of course the unique 30th Anniversary Birthday Party/Hog Roast. Some ideas came up for activities next year. We are already planning another four coach rambles and there will certainly be a group walking holiday based at Bath University in August.
While the weather is turning a bit Wintery (as expected) we still hope you will be able join us for walks on our December to March programme. Details are available by clicking on the ‘Walks Programme’ menu then ‘Find-A-Walk’.
