The C&B Group has been pretty active over the Spring/Summer and early autumn period, with our usual 4 walks per week in the Essex area and extra evening ones in June/July.
The 4 Coach Rambles in May (to Ely), June (to Wrest Park), July (to Whitstable) and September (Knole Park) were very well attended. In August we organised an extra treat - a barge trip on the River Blackwater from Maldon, on a very sunny late afternoon.
The annual Group walking holiday in early August based at Bath University, was just as popular as in previous years. You can read a more detailed report of our ventures under the Walks Reports menu. Our Home page has a slide show of photographs taken on the holiday.
The results of our survey on Chelmsford’s Centenary Circle showed up around 34 faults, the majority of which were missing or broken CC badges and footpath/bridleway direction signs. Next year we shall organise a small working party to replace those signs.
The C&B advertising display outside Chelmsford Library saw a great many visitors during the 6 day period. All the RA membership forms were taken, although we don’t know how many people if any have since joined the RA.
The Group AGM in October was not as well attended as we hoped, despite the offer of free lunch! Two of our Committee members stood down, including the Secretary. Fortunately two new recruits came forward to fill those vacancies. The Walks Coordinator reported that over the past 2 years our group has gained around 12 new walks leaders. This is very encouraging as some of our more established leaders, for various reasons, are not able to lead as much as they used to.
During the Social part of the AGM we had a group conversation about what events should be organised next year. It will be 10 years since we first started our Thames Path walk from the source near Cirencester to the Thames Barrier. To celebrate the occasion, our coach trips in May, June and July will revisit three favourite sections of the Thames taking in places like: Reading, Henley, Marlow, Hampton Court and Richmond. Planning for the Group walking holiday in August is well under way. We have booked out of term student accommodation at Sheffield University for 6 days in the Peak District Nationa Park. Short and long walks are being organised each day with transport being provided by a local coach company.
Please click on the Walk Programme/Find a Walk button to see our planned walks for December to March. We always welcome new walkers and if you like the look of our activities, why not join the Chelmer and Blackwater Group.
